Research for VET policy and practice

Members of VET&CULTURE research network meet at the ETF in Turin
Year/Date: 31/08/2011
Effectiveness, quality and evidence-based policy are at the centre of vocational education and training (VET) reforms all over the world. The conference, hosted by the ETF from 31 August to 3 September, takes an in-depth view on the research and the policy and practice of VET.

“The conference is an opportunity for VET researchers to get an insider’s view of trans-national policy processes,” says Søren Nielsen, and the ETF helped prepare the event. “For ETF staff it is a chance to receive a critical feedback on their practice in transition and developing countries, and thanks to the fine structure and sequencing of the event it was a unique opportunity to stimulate mutual learning.”

The conference organised by the VET&Culture Network, an international association of researchers, challenges researchers to confront their approaches and arguments with expectations and imperatives of policy. It also provides an opportunity to discuss what is happening in VET and the cross-section of VET and research.

"Having more than 30 VET researchers from around the world is a chance for the ETF to reduce the research-policy gap and practice, and it is a unique networking opportunity," said Mr. Nielsen.

The participants will also provide comments on 2012 ETF yearbook on “How to monitor and evaluate VET system development”.
